About Dwarf Cichlid
Dwarf cichlids are small cichlid species from groups such as Apistogramma, Mikrogeophagus, Laetacara, and Nanochromis. They are popular for combining classic cichlid behavior and colour with a size better suited to smaller aquariums.
🐠 Behavior & Temperament
Most dwarf cichlids occupy the lower to middle areas of the tank and form territories around caves, wood, or planting. Many are relatively manageable in community aquariums, but pairs and breeding fish can become strongly territorial.
💡 Care Guide
Provide cover, visual barriers, and species-appropriate tankmates, with special attention to substrate and breeding territories. Many species do best in soft, clean water, and stocking method varies by species, with some best kept as pairs and others in harem arrangements.
