Symphysodon haraldi
The blue discus (Symphysodon haraldi) is treated as a distinct species in the hobby and in much of the aquarium literature, associated with the “blue” wild morphotype from parts of the Amazon drainage. Taxonomic names have been revised over time; it is closely related to other Symphysodon species. Care matches other wild discus: very warm, soft, acidic water, large clean tanks, and group keeping. Farmed strains are less common than aequifasciatus-based lines; wild fish need expert care and acclimation.
Discus pellets; frozen beefheart mixes; bloodworm; brine shrimp; frequent small feeds for juveniles.
Frequency: 2–3× daily
Colour and condition depend on pristine water and varied high-quality foods.

Warm, soft, acidic rivers and floodplain lakes with structure.
